A tombstone for the species
This is what’s known as the Automatic Rationality of the Free Market: tons of money for investment in products like Maple-Bacon coffee…very little for, like, creating an agricultural system that won’t kill off 2.5% of insects per year, which is literally eco-suicidal.
Remember that the next time someone in the NYT, et al, lectures you on how anything other than the system that brought us to the brink of extinction is “utopian” or generally silly. As that twat Pelosi’s been doing recently—as expected. (Yes, if she were a man, I'd still use the term "twat"--the British connotation of a smug idiot, that is.)
Creating wants while crying needs go unaddressed—worse, are ignored and/or exacerbated while full-scale attacks occur on anyone who dares to offer something other than suicide. Because the rich want to keep things as they are, in a combo of blindness (mostly) and (in many cases) total moral depravity: fuck everyone else; I got mine.
A mindset which is hardly limited to the rich but to which the rich (and educated) are hardly immune—all the more so as they benefit from the current system (not all of which is bad, by a long shot, etc, &c…) both financially and psychologically: “Worked for me; must be great! Change the system I succeeded in, and I get threatened!”
