Can Progressives Make the Democratic Party End its Collaboration with Re...
More about how fascism-o-genic most of the really-existing drivers in fact are. Without that background, without taking into account the core issues--global warming, nuclear weapons, increasing inequality, rising fascism--you simply can't make strategic and even tactical calls.
Excellent panel; great discussion. I'll tell you this, though: yeah, you have to face reality. Period. Fuck feelings--if you need to feel something, feel the legitimate terror that we face on many fronts. If you need to feel hope, well, hope is action in the face of no guarantees. Politics today (more than ever) is not a safe-space illusion or a fucking support group: it's act now or this whole liberal democracy thing, and maybe civilization, and maybe the species, and maybe even all multicellular life, is over.
Deal with it. Illusion won't get us through; adulthood might. I dig the comments of that red-dressed woman--I missed her name (oh, I think it's Jacqueline Luqman)--but I'm sorry, her kids will NOT fight the same fights in 30, 40 years as she is and her parents did 30, 50 years ago. They'll be either dead or living in a full-on totalitarian state--that is what is coming if we don't jump on carbon right the fuck now. Stop the fucking illusions, already--and I generally dig her M.O. and comments. We all have terminal cancer. We were all born with it. It's bad; chances are, we won't survive to full term, as it were.
So what? Act, act, act. Optimism of the will. Cut the crap, stop looking for deus ex machina: it's us or it's over. If that scares people into non-action, then we're fucked and those people are objectively collaborating with the worst elements of the species. Suck. It. Up.
This is not about our precious little egos or identities or whatever--it's cold, hard reality. Right in the face. The species is being tested as it's never been. We'll succeed or fail, and nothing and no one in the universe other than us is even equipped to give a shit. We do it, or it doesn't happen.
Oh, I mean: just wear pink pussy hats and update your Facebook status. That should do it.
