Joint statement of Norman Finkelstein and DePaul University on their tenure controversy and its resolution

Click the title of this post to read; watch below, along with some video of the protest and another angle on the events of yesterday:

And here's Finkelstein's encomium to the late Raul Hilberg, author of The Destruction of the European Jews. Hilberg was a dogged supporter of Finkelstein's; a conservative, traditional historian with the intellectual honesty to call it as he saw it. Not the only one, by the way -- Sara Roy, Noam Chomsky, Avi Shlaim, Edward Said, Christopher Hitchens (pre-Kool Aid), Ian Kershaw, and on and on and on... Check the blurbs on all his books.

That, plus his outstanding teaching -- nah, not for DePaul. Clearly didn't deserve tenure. As Chomsky has said, this was a complete travesty, but it was loud and public. Along with the Carter book, Walt & Mearsheimer, Tony Judt, and a variety of other critical voices (who don't necessarily agree with each other, of course), the propaganda edifice is cracking.

A side effect of this crumbling ideology that, appallingly, considers itself to be "pro-Israel," is the exquisite pleasure of watching propagandists writhe in utter hysteria.

"The party's over..."
